April 8th – June 5th, 2016
The Albrecht Gallery opened its doors on May 6, 1966. The exhibition The Albrecht Gallery: The Early Years will explore the events, art, and people that launched the institution as we celebrate its 50th anniversary. The early years of the gallery represent the tireless work of volunteers from the St. Joseph Art League and early staff members to turn the William Albrecht home into a center for culture and regional art. The exhibition will include many of the works that were purchased and donated in those first five years, including pieces by Wayne Thiebaud, George Caleb Bingham, William Wind McKim, James McNeill Whistler, and John Sloan.
The public is invited to an Opening Reception on Friday, April 8th from 4-7 pm. There is no charge to attend the event.
A Special Ribbon Cutting will be held at 4:00 pm. The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to help us kick off the celebration and recognize the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art’s 50th Anniversary.
