Ival Lawhon, Jr. was a photographer for the St. Joseph News Press for 31 years, but his work as a photojournalist started before that. Ival was a decorated War Veteran, he taught photography at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, and he loved traveling. He retired from the News Press in 2008, but did not get a chance to enjoy his time off. He died in October, 2009 and that same month he was inducted into the Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame. The St. Joseph News Press described his work as a “visual catalog of life” in St. Joseph and Northwest Missouri. Through his lens, he captured countless fires, the great flood of 1993, and many personal stories. The exhibition will be a retrospective of his work and it will be curated by Marshall White, a St. Joseph News Press Reporter and historian that worked with Ival Lawhon, Jr. for years.
