APRIL 2022 NEWS & EVENTS

Three new exhibitions debut this month at the AKMA

On view April 23 – June 12, 2022

Exhibitions highlighting Stephen Johnson and Karen Matheis’ body of work will be on view from Saturday, April 23 until Sunday, June 12, 2022. These exhibitions will take place in tandem with the 6th annual National Undergraduate Juried Exhibition.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Opening receptions are free and open to the public. A cash bar and light refreshments will be available.


6th Annual Undergraduate Art History Symposium

The annual refereed AKMA / MWSU Undergraduate Art History Symposium offers the opportunity for students from across the United States to present original research papers on various topics advancing the field of art history. Presentations will be made by students selected by a panel of art historians based on original research and academic rigor.

The keynote presentation will be given by Dr. Larisa Grollemond from the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, CA titled, “The Fantasy of the Middle Ages: Medievalisms and the Museum.”

Calling all Fine Artists! We are now accepting vendor applications for our first AKMA Art Fair. Outdoor vendor booths are 10′ x 10′ per artist. There is a $25 application fee + $25 booth fee if accepted. See here for full details.

Exhibition Dates: June – September 2022

Choose an object from a collection of found objects! Use this object as a creative inspiration for a new artwork that will be exhibited at the museum. How the object is incorporated into your work is up to you. $20 per object for members, $30 per object for non-members. See here for more details.
