William Merritt Chase’s A Venetian Balcony positions us in a dark interior and invites us to gaze through an open window at majestic edifices flanking a shimmering Venetian canal.

Skilled painter, Larry DeGraff will be in the AKMA gallery on…
July 9 & 10 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm recreating this wonderful piece.

You are invited to stop in, watch, enjoy and learn as DeGraff copies the first artwork acquired for what is today the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art.

There are always new painting techniques and tricks to learn when copying different paintings. “What color did the artist lay on first?”, “What kind of brush did the artist use?”, “What direction is the brush stroke going?”,”How did the artist make that plane recede?”, “Is that edge soft or hard?”, “Did the artist apply the paint thinly or thickly?”  Just by watching you will develop resources and skills to bring to your own paintings.

Then sign-up for…Bringing the Outside In: Oil Painting Workshop with Larry DeGraff on July 11-12. CLICK HERE for more info and to sign-up.
