Volunteer Your Time

Contribute to the museum community

The Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art was founded with a purpose to bring awareness and appreciation of the arts to Saint Joseph, Missouri. We are looking for individuals who share that same commitment. We encourage those with an enthusiasm to bring people and art together to join our team as a volunteer.

We have a variety of volunteer possibilities available:

  • Docents
  • Event Committee Members
  • Board of Directors Members
  • Reception Ambassadors
  • Internships for high school students
  • Exhibitions/curatorial internships for university students

Is organizing your favorite past time?

We could use your help

Do you have a particular talent for organizing? We could use your help straightening up our events and catalogue archive. If you enjoy sorting and filing paper records, give us a call at (816) 233-7003.

Join our Events Committee

Don’t you just love a great party? The AKMA hosts several signature events throughout the year to promote our mission of arts education, raise funds for ongoing programs, and to provide unique experiences for all ages. To join our team of museum supporters who make these events possible, please send us an email.

Internships

Internships at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art are a great way to explore nonprofit and museum professions and are available throughout the year. Typically the museum hosts interns in their junior or senior year of undergraduate education, with some high school students accepted for special projects in their senior year. Internships are unpaid at this time.

Students in previous years were enrolled in art history, graphic design, hospitality, education, communications or studio art. If you are interested in exploring a museum career and would like more information about interning at the AKMA, please contact Dansare Marks.

Docent Program

AKMA Docents are a group of people passionate about making art history come alive. Docents lead conversations for school groups, bus tours, and other private events. Docents typically volunteer during regular weekday museum hours (Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm), and occasionally on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday 1 to 4 pm). If you are interested in learning more, please email Alex Asher.
